Last minute editing on November 28th
Once we had done the sequence of the music video we went through it and added many cross dissolve's. The reason for this is because we feel our song and the theme to our music video is complimented by slow movement and transitions between shots.
Also, we made our vide black and while like Adele's - Someone Like You. We did this because we though it strips our artist - Diavian- of exterior beauty and focuses mainly on the message behind the video - that she is dinging to guide these lost girls with little/no confidence.
EXTENDED DEADLINE!!!!
SO, after a long day of endless panicking our teachers have extended our deadline!! Just as we were on to the last 10 seconds of our music video the whole thing went out of sync and we could not get it back in time for the deadline.

Production- Last day of editing.
We discussed in using a clip twice, but we were not sure if it would look good. However we came to the conclusion of using it as we remembered that in Goodwin's theory he says " the repetition of clips occur a lot in music videos". Goodwin has given us our answer!
Production-Starting Again on our DEADLINE day!
OH MY GOD!!
Today is our deadline for our music video, but we have decided to start again from scratch!! AAAAHH This is because we were told to change our track from an MP4 to a MOV. This messed up all the markings in our video, it was in such a mess we thought starting again was the best idea. We were panicking but have had a small 'group meeting' with our teacher Louisa and she has helped as decide on what shots we should use.
Here is a video of us panicking:
We overcame our worries and began everything again, Louisa gave us a piece of paper to write down what clips were going to use, this made it a lot easier as we now knew what clips were good and the ones which were not as good.
Here is a video of us panicking less :) and we now have footage in our timeline! YEEEEY!
By the end of toady we hope to have a clear structure of our music video and then we will add effects such as dissolves, black and white and if necessary a reverse effect. We are really DETERMINED to complete this today!! :)
Rough Cut Analysis
- 0 - 20 seconds
The first 20 seconds of our rough cut music video to Jessie J's Who You Are, introduce our pop artist, Diavian. However after watching or rough cut in a more analytical sense I realise that the first character introduced to our audience is in fact our actress, Angie, rather than our artist. This may be misleading for our audience and lead them to believe that Angie is our artist.
- 21 - 42 seconds
In the next 21 seconds of our video, I realise we have a very small selection of videos of our artist singing the song. It comes across as though Emily is another character in our story line rather than our artist ad the center of attention. We need to include shots of Emily alone 'singing.'
- 43 seconds - 1.15
This part of our music video is the first introduction of our chorus. The beginning scene of the chorus is out of sync and the beat and lip syncing do not match, so we need to touch up the editing. Secondly, we bring in our actress Angie in to the chorus. Although Emily (Diavian) is lip syncing during these scenes, it is perhaps unnecessary to include our actress in the chorus when we are trying to project a clear verse, chorus structure. Having said that, I do like the last scene of the chorus at 1.08 where Angie drops on the floor, I feel it introduces the second verse nicely.
- 1.16 - 1.39
I like these scenes, the illustrating style of Angie brushing her hair when the lyrics are "Brushing my hair, do I look perfect" perfectly convey our amplification structure. Also, Emily's (Diavian) lip syncing is good and well edited to the beat.
- 1.40 onwards
This has not yet been edited, so pay no mind to the out of sync beat's and un-rendered clips.
Production- Analysis of our rough cut
Rough Cut Analysis!
We have done our rough cut now, we're no so pleased with it as we have a lot more clips to add. However we think there will be a very good improvement. Our teacher Louisa has suggested to introduce our artist first as it's a way to promote her. As seen in the rough cut, the first clip is of our actress Angie so we will change this to a clip of Emily. We also hope to have everything in black and white.

RESEARCH - Ideas For Digipak
Beyonce's album 'Bday' is a good example of a digipak cover.
It contains one image of Beyonce which is a mid-shot, and it's on the right hand side of the cover. This makes her the centre of attention, and this is what should be done, as she is the artist. I plan to use this technique when designing our digipak. The majority of CD covers I've come across tend to use a mid shot or close up of the artist.
The colour theme is symbolic of how natural her life is (behind the camera of course). The BLUE and GREEN colours show this because they are seen as the 'colours of nature'. Similarly, the streaks of black mixed with the green behind her, represent her experiencing the 'gloomy' and 'dark' things that most people are forced to face. The lack of 'extravagant' and bright colours create a bond with her audience as a 'normal person', rather than as a celebrity.
At the same time, the simple vibe of the cover, suggests that because she is well-known celebrity, a basic CD cover with her face on it, will still attract fans. This is reinforced through the use of the colour GOLD in her hair and her skin tone - it shows how wealthy she is.
Beyonce's 'Greatest Hits' album is a good example of the inside of a digipak.
The digipak has a GOLD and BLACK colour scheme running through it, again reinforcing her wealth and the 'dark' problems she sometimes has to face.
It also has several pictures of Beyonce, again just reinforcing her being the artist. Three of her previous albums are also shown, and this promotes them also.
We see a picture of her in a tight, black, shiny outfit and it shows off her curvy figure. This could attract her male fans, but it can also be seen as negative for her female fans, as it may be promoting the wrong message, e.g: 'this is the ideal body to have'. Nonetheless, it could be argued that she's showing everybody can be beautiful, no matter what size you are. I wouldn't like to include a picture like this in our digipak, but I would like to include several images of me, like this.
The basic font used for the both the Bday Album and Greatest Hits again keep all eyes on the artist, and most fans recognise them from the picture, and not the words on the album.

RESEARCH - Digipak Tutorial
Whilst browsing on youtube, I came across a DigiPak Tutorial video. I've had previous experience with creating a digipak for GCSE Media, but this was with a programme called Corel Paint Shop Pro.
This video has made me more familiar with Photoshop, and I feel I have a little bit more confidence with producing a Digipak, alongside with my group members.

Here is a video I found on Youtube, it carfully shows how to make a digipak on Photoshop. I'm not entirely confident with photoshop but this small video clip has given me an idea of what to do. Thank God for Youtube :)

I am now more aware of the functions of each tool, how I can undo something or how to get something back. I hope this small tutorial will help me when it comes to doing my digipak.

Digipak Ideas
Looking through the internet for ideas for our didgipak, I noticed that most of them has a close up the artist as the main image. This is defninelty to promote the artist and as this is our task I'm think of doing the same.
Here is an image of Riahnna's digipak- Loud:
We can see how she's the main focus, the front cover of the digipak has no background the extreme close up of her face shows how she's the artist. I also noticed how the graphology is very simple which is a positive thing as it does not take away our focus from the artist. When we begin to do our digipak I hope to do something similar. For me the artist needs to be the centre of attention in order to promote and advertise them.
Inside the digipak, there is a particular colour theme of red, nude, white and black. The colours used are also very important as it's a way of sublimanely attracting the audeince. The colours combine very well with her hair and lips which is very effective as it almost establishes her image of being 'girly, sassy but also quite cheeky '.

Editing our Rough Cut
The Editing done today -18th of November
Today has bee our second day editing our music video, it has been quite complicated as there are many clips which like but dislike at the same time. Some of the clips have very good framing but the lighting is quite off.

Day 3 of filming -14th of November 2011

We filmed in a different location but we stuck to our idea of filming by a river bank. We wanted to have a variety of shots in diffeent places. We were also forced to film in a completely different place due to Emily changing her hairstlye, we changed her costume as we thought it would look unprofessional if she had a different hairstyle but with the same costume. In music videos the artists are in different locations with different clothing so we wanted to do the same.

Filming Day 3
Today was what you call DEDICATION!!! It was so cold, practically invisible snow, and filming nearby a river didn't make things any easier. Numb fingers and toes, also made it hard and to be honest I didn't want to film at all. We actually planned to film in our previous outside scene in Victoria, but there was an important meeting going on, and we were told we couldn't film.
We had to change location, which worked out for the best when thinking about it. My hairstyle had changed, and so had the location, but one thing that hadn't changed was my outfit. It would look kind of tacky, if everything had suddenly changed, apart from the outfit, so I borrowed Dina's coat for the day and that made my outfit look like I had changed. Now it was just a different scene in our music video, with a different look, which occurs alot in music videos.
We were able to film a range of different shots, such as low angle and side shots, which we hadn't done previously. With small raindrops sometimes falling from the sky, we were able to hold an umbrella over the camera, and film what we needed to film in terrible weather. I'm happy with the shots I saw, and hopefully it flows in well with the music video.

Outside Research - Selena Gomez EMA Advert
I think this advert is really cool, in terms of editing. Selena Gomez shows off her rapping skills and is going 'head-to-head' with her rapping side and her singing side. If we had gone with the idea of me being both the artist and the actress, I would've wanted it to be something like this - the artist helping out the actress. The use of simple fade transitions and jump cuts work really well, as it gives the viewers quick glimpses of each Selena.
Below is the amazing advert:
Production- Black and White
Black and White
We want our video to be in black and white as we think it will look a lot more effective, through this we are also able to reflect the mood of our song
We were inspired by Adele- Someone like you as her video holds sad lyrics which is similar to our song choice. For this reason we believe that using the effect of black and white will truly bring out our storyline.

Superimposition

The dictionary defenition of superimposition |
After seeing Adeles- Someone like you video we really liked the shots of when her face fades into the setting. We decided that we wanted to do something similar so we asked our teacher and she told us that it was called a 'superimposotion effect'. She taught us how to get this effect and so we applied to some scenes.
Here are some images of the superimposition effect used in Adeles video and in our video:

Production-Day 1 of Filming
We filmed in our actresses bedroom, the room was quite small but we managed to work with it. It was the room we had been looking for initially; very plain with white furniture if possible. We were happy with all the filming we done. For our next filming day we want to use a variety of angles like low and high angles and possibly cut aways.

Filming- Day 1
1st day of Filming
The first day of filming is always a way to find out how you work with your group members. We decided to meet up at 10am in Victoria station and then we all made our way to our actresses house. When we got there we began organising the room in a way which we thought would be appropiate for our storyline. We began by clearing out teddy bears, perfume bottles and posters that were on the walls. We then set up the camera and lights and began to film. We had a bit difficulty with the light as we didn't have a tripod to hold it in place, however we had to work with what we were given. We decided that the tallest person in our group-Iriesha would hold the lights and she would try to have a steady hand.
We began by filming the room,we done a panning of the room and a 360 turn. filming in both high and low angles. We then began to film our artist Emily in different positions whilst singing the whole song. At the beginning it was hard for her to get into her role but then she became comfterable and done it very well. After this we filmed our actress Angie, we tried to focus mostly on her face in order to show her emotions more clearly. Once these shots were done we filmed Emily and Angie together to show our idea of a gurdain angel, the artist is in the room but the actress is not aware of it.
After 7 long hours, we finished and we were happy with the result. However we discussed that next time we film we want to film more side shots, close ups and cut aways.
